As is well known, children can be very convincing when they want something. It is therefore important to prepare well for the pocket money negotiation. Even four-year-olds already know how useful the shiny coins are. It is important, say researchers at the German Youth Institute, that children receive a certain amount at regular intervals on fixed dates. In this way, they learn to deal with money at a young age. The negotiation is part of the educational project. WELT shows which sums are appropriate at which age, which points parents should cite – and how children can argue.
