Hansung Baekje Museum Launches New Play Space for Infants and Families
In an innovative move to expand cultural access for families, the Hansung Baekje Museum has recently initiated a three-month pilot operation of a unique “Seoul-Style Kids Café” within the Seoul Baekje Children’s Museum. This initiative is specifically designed for infants aged 0 to 3 and their families, providing a safe and stimulating environment that encourages early development through play.
The new children’s space, which will remain operational until March, offers free admission for families with infants, providing a welcome opportunity for caregivers to relax while engaging in activities alongside their young children. Distinct from the museum’s existing offerings, which are largely aimed at children aged 6 to 10, the “Kids Café” emphasizes early-stage physical development, imaginative play, and sensory experiences.
The design of the café draws inspiration from the rich cultural heritage of the Baekje period. Its interior features soft, cube-based play structures and various tactile elements to promote active exploration and movement. Notably, the space incorporates motifs such as the Baekje Gilt-Bronze Incense Burner, creating an enchanting atmosphere that harmoniously combines aesthetic appeal with interactive learning opportunities. Additionally, Rubik’s-style cube installations and warm, European-inspired color palettes have been thoughtfully integrated into the design to foster a sense of balance, curiosity, and early cognitive growth.
Officially opened on December 26, the pilot program is intended to be flexible, adapting to the museum’s ongoing exhibitions, classes, and family programs. This adaptive approach aims to transform the space into a vibrant cultural hub rather than merely a conventional playroom.
Visitor feedback will be collected throughout the trial period to help inform future developments of the facility and its programming ahead of a planned official opening in May.
