Enhanced Accessibility to Health and Nutrition Services for Families through Local Collaboration

Mount Morris, NY — Families enrolling in the Livingston County Head Start program this summer will benefit from an integrated approach to accessing essential health and nutrition services, as announced by county officials. A strategic collaboration involving Head Start, the Livingston-Wyoming Women, Infants, and Children (WIC) Program, and the county’s Lead Poisoning Prevention Program aims to streamline the enrollment process for local families.

The coordinated effort will be showcased during the annual enrollment events scheduled for July 22, August 12, and August 19, 2023. These events will take place from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at KidStart, located at 5871 Groveland Station Rd., Mount Morris. This initiative reflects a commitment to enhancing family welfare by making vital resources more accessible under one roof.

Head Start is a federal program designed to promote school readiness among young children from low-income families by offering comprehensive education, health, nutrition, and parental involvement services. With this new partnership, residents will find it significantly easier to enroll in programs addressing their children’s health and nutritional needs. By bringing together these key services, families can obtain information, guidance, and support in a more efficient manner.

The involvement of the Livingston-Wyoming WIC Program is particularly noteworthy, as it serves pregnant women, new mothers, and children up to age five who are struggling to meet their nutritional needs. The WIC Program provides healthy foods, nutrition education, and referrals to health care, all of which can significantly impact a child’s early development.

Additionally, the Lead Poisoning Prevention Program will provide critical resources regarding the risks of lead exposure in homes and offer screenings, which are essential given the serious public health implications associated with lead poisoning, especially in young children.

By consolidating these services, the partnership aims to remove barriers that families often face when seeking help, making it easier for parents to access the comprehensive support necessary for their children’s health and education. As local officials gear up for the enrollment events, they encourage families to take advantage of this opportunity to connect with essential programs that can contribute to their children’s well-being and future success.

For more information about the enrollment process or the services being offered, residents are encouraged to reach out to Head Start or the participating organizations directly, ensuring that all families in the community have access to the necessary resources for a healthy start.
