The Oyster River Middle School Jazz Band and Festival Band recently made their mark at the Music in the Parks Festival held earlier this month. Principal Bill Sullivan expressed his pride in the bands’ achievements at the festival.
Taking place at Hersheypark on May 18, the bands clinched the first-place positions in both the middle school jazz ensemble and middle school concert band categories, distinguishing themselves based on school size and amongst all middle schools in attendance.
Music in the Parks hosts school music festivals at various theme parks nationwide each spring, providing performing ensembles with opportunities to learn from music education experts and grow musically.
The outstanding performance by ORMS at the festival highlights the school and district’s dedication to excellence in music education while showcasing the flourishing talents of its students.
Principal Sullivan commended the students, attributing their success to hard work, dedication, support from the school community, and the guidance of the music teachers.
In addition to their musical accomplishments, ORMS students also had the chance to visit Gettysburg and indulge in some fun-filled activities at Hersheypark during the festival.
The bands are under the direction of music teachers Sarah Kuhn and Jacob Boulay, both of whom expressed immense pride in their students’ hard work and commitment, culminating in a successful musical showcase at the festival.
