Oakham Pride will still be taking place this year, albeit in a scaled-down version, as organizers faced financial struggles. The Oakham Pride Committee initially raised concerns about the event’s feasibility due to low finances and the need to focus on fundraising activities in 2024.
Despite the challenges, organizers have decided to move forward with a stripped-back celebration, omitting paid entertainment and stalls. This decision aims to allocate more funds towards Oakham Pride 2025. The event will feature a Pride march, and attendees are encouraged to gather at Cutts Close Park for picnics and celebration.
Chair of Oakham Pride, Lucy Slessor, expressed gratitude for the community’s support and willingness to contribute to the event. She highlighted the importance of maintaining visibility and unity within the Rutland community through events like Pride.
While the date for Oakham Pride 2024 is yet to be announced, organizers remain dedicated to upholding the core values of the event. Despite the absence of certain festivities this year, the focus on inclusivity and community spirit remains unwavering.
