The Severn Valley Railway has exciting news for their upcoming Spring Diesel Festival as they announce the addition of a Class 59 locomotive to the event. The festival, scheduled to take place from the 16th to the 19th of May, will feature a mix of heritage and modern locomotives, promising a weekend filled with diesel power and a packed timetable.
Class 59 locomotives are a rare sight, with only 15 ever built, and Freightliner owning all but one of them. The addition of this unique locomotive, alongside the previously secured Freightliner Class 70, offers attendees a rare opportunity to witness these true freight workhorses up close.
Managing Director of SVR, Jonathan ‘Gus’ Dunster expressed his excitement, stating, “The SVR is known for its ability to bring in exceptional examples of main line diesel traction for our gala events, combining modern and heritage traction seamlessly. With the inclusion of the Class 59, along with 37409 ‘Loch Awe’, we have high hopes for securing even more guest locomotives for the festival. Stay tuned for updates!”
