

The Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia (SSFF & ASIA) 2024 has officially opened its online venue and website today, with tickets now on sale. This year’s festival will showcase short films created entirely with live AI images, as well as special screenings featuring acclaimed actors such as Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, and Adrien Brody.
Scheduled to take place at various venues in Tokyo, the festival will kick off with the Opening Ceremony on Tuesday, June 4th, and culminate in the Awards Ceremony on Monday, June 17th. The online venue will run from Thursday, April 25th, to Sunday, June 30th, under the theme “Illuminate your life”, showcasing a selection of curated short films.
The festival has announced around 270 nominated works from a pool of 4,936 submissions from 114 countries and regions. Notable entries in the Live Action competition category include short films by Japanese actors and directors like Yudai Chiba, Risa Naka, Sota Fukushi, and Win Morisaki.
Special screenings at the festival will include a range of diverse films, including those featuring AI-generated images and acclaimed actors such as Ben Whishaw, Léa Seydoux, and Adrien Brody. The Asia International category will showcase films with themes like LGBTQ representation and stories of individuals with disabilities.
SSFF & ASIA 2024 will also feature a variety of Rainbow/Korea/Sports Programs, including dramas exploring LGBTQ perspectives, films highlighting the Korean wave, and stories of individuals pursuing their dreams in sports. Additionally, 30 short films across four programs, including AI, U-25, Rainbow, and Very Short Program, will be available at the online venue.
