Arts by the Sea, the South West’s largest free celebration of arts, culture, people, and place, is back for its 14th edition with a theme of TASTE. The 2024 festival, scheduled to take place from Friday, September 27th to Sunday, September 29th, promises a wide array of unique artworks and performances that will challenge and captivate your artistic tastes.
Arts By the Sea offers a mix of large-scale spectacles, diverse music, intriguing installations, dance, street theatre, participatory experiences, and more, featuring over 100 artists in the lineup. This year’s Artist in Residence is Rebecca Strickson, an illustrator and designer from Margate known for her bold and colorful work that often touches on LGBTQ+ advocacy. For this year’s festival, Strickson will delve into the concept of TASTE and explore the external influences that shape our preferences in art. Visitors can anticipate having their tastes challenged and examined as part of Strickson’s project.
The festival also announced its Associate Artist for 2024, Jasmin Edwards, a circus performer and multi-hoop specialist from Bournemouth. Edwards aims to not only impact individuals but entire communities with her work. Her piece for Arts by the Sea will deliver a satirical commentary on women’s roles in life and art, using her hooping skills to visually captivate audiences while shedding light on the societal double standards faced by women in performance.
Attendees can look forward to a weekend filled with thought-provoking and visually stunning experiences that explore the theme of TASTE in art and beyond.
