The Salzburg Easter Festival, under the direction of Nikolaus Bachler, has made an exciting announcement for their 2025 event. The Finnish Radio Symphony Orchestra, led by Esa-Pekka Salonen, will serve as the Orchestra in Residence, marking the first time a Finnish group has been given this prestigious role.
Salonen expressed his enthusiasm for the FRSO, highlighting the significance of this orchestra in his career as it was the first professional ensemble he ever conducted. He praised the orchestra’s growth into a world-class group and looks forward to showcasing their talents at the festival.
In addition to this collaboration, the festival will feature a new production of Modest Mussorgsky’s ‘Khovanshchina’ directed by Simon McBurney. Salonen will also take the stage to conduct two concerts featuring works by Sibelius, Mahler, and his own compositions. The Mahler Chamber Orchestra and the Mozarteum Orchestra Salzburg will also be showcased, with concerts conducted by Gianandrea Noseda, Maxim Emelyanychev, and Tabita Berglund.
The 2025 Salzburg Easter Festival promises to be a captivating and diverse musical experience, bringing together renowned orchestras and talented conductors for a celebration of classical music.
