The Sands: International Film Festival of St Andrews is gearing up for its highly anticipated third edition, scheduled to take place from April 19-21, 2024. This festival is dedicated to uniting creative and innovative individuals from the entertainment industry with audiences to explore diverse storytelling techniques.

One of the highlights of this year’s festival will be a special appearance by renowned American composer and conductor Alan Silvestri. Silvestri, known for his work on iconic films such as “Back to the Future” and “Forrest Gump”, will be giving a talk on his illustrious career and will also be performing at the University of St Andrews’ new Laidlaw Music Centre on Sunday, April 21.

Joining Silvestri as a special guest is casting director Debra Zane, whose impressive credits include the “Hunger Games” franchise and “Ocean’s Eleven”. Zane played a key role in the establishment of the Oscar for Best Achievement in Casting.

Additionally, Hollywood director Joe Russo, best known for his work on “Avengers: Endgame”, will be returning to St Andrews for this year’s festival. As the Festival founder, Russo will be engaging in a special conversation and hosting mentoring sessions with local filmmakers.

The festival will also feature a diverse international showcase of contemporary and classic cinema, along with a variety of supporting events. Festival Director Ania Trzebiatowska, with her extensive experience in the international film circuit, is excited to welcome guests and audiences back to Sands. Trzebiatowska aims to showcase impactful work that sparks meaningful conversations and emphasizes the role of artists in uniting and inspiring audiences through visual storytelling.
