Meryl Streep to Receive Honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival

Legendary Hollywood actress Meryl Streep is set to be honored with a special Palme d’Or at the upcoming Cannes Film Festival. The prestigious award will be presented to her at the festival’s opening ceremony on May 14, marking her return to the renowned French festival where she previously won the best actress prize in 1989.

Expressing her gratitude for the award, Streep stated, “I am immeasurably honored to receive the news of this prestigious award. To win a prize at Cannes has always represented the highest achievement in the art of filmmaking for the international community of artists.” She added that she is looking forward to personally thanking everyone in France this May.

The festival heads, Iris Knobloch and Thierry Fremaux, praised Streep for her illustrious career spanning five decades, stating that she has become a part of the collective imagination and love of cinema for audiences worldwide. Streep’s participation in the Cannes opening will kick off the 77th edition of the festival, which will conclude on May 25 with awards presented by a jury led by President Greta Gerwig.

Previous recipients of the Cannes honorary Palme d’Or include esteemed names like Jeanne Moreau, Catherine Deneuve, and Jodie Foster. Streep’s upcoming recognition further solidifies her legacy as one of the most revered actresses in the history of cinema.
