Target’s Car Seat Trade-In Program Returns: Promoting Sustainability and Savings for Families

The Target Car Seat Trade-In Program has made a significant return, offering parents and caregivers within Laurens County and across the nation a unique opportunity to enhance both their savings and their commitment to sustainability. This initiative allows families to responsibly dispose of old or unsafe car seats, receiving financial incentives that can be applied toward the purchase of new baby gear.

Beginning on April 27, 2025, and running through May 24, 2025, parents can bring in a variety of old car seats—ranging from infant and convertible seats to boosters and bases. In exchange for these items, Target offers a 20% off discount, known as a Target Circle™ Bonus. This bonus can be utilized for the purchase of new car seats, bases, boosters, strollers, travel systems, and select baby home gear, which includes high chairs, swings, bouncers, and walkers.

Participation in the program is straightforward. Interested families need to transport their old car seat to any participating Target location, where they will find designated drop-off bins near Guest Services. Scanning the QR code posted near these bins allows participants to receive their exclusive Target Circle™ Bonus directly on their mobile device. Each Target Circle account is eligible to receive this bonus once, which can be redeemed on two separate purchases prior to the expiration of the offer. However, the discount is not applicable to clearance items or products sold through Target Plus™ partners but may be combined with other eligible promotions.

Since its inception in 2016, the Car Seat Trade-In Program has reframed how families approach car seat safety and recycling. Target has partnered with various recycling companies to divert over 3 million car seats from landfills, effectively preventing approximately 49 million pounds of plastic and metal from going to waste. The materials collected from these car seats are repurposed into a broad array of items, including plastic buckets, carpet padding, construction materials, and select Target Brightroom™ storage solutions.

For local parents, the benefits of the trade-in program extend beyond financial savings; it also promotes community welfare through responsible recycling practices. Families are encouraged to confirm their nearest Target store’s participation, as most full-size locations are included, while some smaller format stores may not offer drop-off bins.

To stay informed about current and upcoming trade-in initiatives, customers can visit Target.com or regularly check the Target app. This program not only facilitates safer car seats for children but also aligns with growing sustainability efforts, illustrating how retailers can adopt environmental responsibility while supporting their customers’ needs.
