Gloucester is set to host its inaugural independent film festival in October 2024, thanks to the efforts of two local filmmakers.
Oscar Wenman-Hyde and director Joshy Lee, known for the film “Boy in the Corner,” have joined forces to create the Gloucester Independent Film Festival. Scheduled to take place at Gloucester Guildhall on Saturday, October 5, 2024, the event aims to attract both local and international filmmakers to the city.
The festival is open to submissions from emerging artists, with a focus on showcasing new and exciting work. Filmmakers and screenplay writers from the local community are encouraged to submit their projects for a chance to be featured at the festival and compete for various awards.
Categories for the festival include Best Feature Film, Best Short Film, Best Documentary, Best Music Video, and Best Screenplay, with specific categories dedicated to student filmmakers as well.
In addition to film screenings, the festival will also offer seminars and networking opportunities for emerging filmmakers. These sessions will cover various aspects of the independent film industry to help participants advance their careers and potentially secure a red-carpet premiere.
Reflecting on Gloucester’s history as a filming location for productions like “Harry Potter,” “Star Wars,” and “Doctor Who,” Oscar noted, “Gloucester has a vast history of high-end film and television productions. However, we are excited to shine a spotlight on the local talent and creativity within our community.”
Filmmakers interested in submitting their work can do so by the regular deadline on Wednesday, May 1, 2024. Extended and last-call deadlines will be announced later in the year for those who may require more time to prepare their submissions.
