The annual Maine Fiddlehead Festival is back, scheduled for Saturday, April 27, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the University of Maine at Farmington campus. This community event, celebrating local food, is in its 11th year, organized by UMF faculty, students, staff, and local community members, with support from area businesses. The festival, which is free for all attendees, promises a plethora of delicious delights from farmers and food producers.
Festival-goers can expect an array of spring greens, fresh parsnips, seedlings, root crops, herbs, teas, and specialty food products from local farmers and artisan food vendors. The day will include cooking demonstrations, food trucks such as The Ugly Dumpling and Fresh Eatz, and over 45 vendors representing farmers, food producers, crafters, nonprofits, and more.
The festival will feature a kid’s zone with hands-on activities, farm animals, and exhibits, along with Tent Talks on various topics including soil fertility, fiddlehead harvesting, and local sustainable eating expeditions. Musical performances will entertain guests throughout the day, including the Franklin County Fiddlers.
This family-friendly event will go on rain or shine at the UMF campus location. In case of inclement weather, the festival will be moved indoors to the Student Center. Parking is available in adjacent university lots.
