The Tacoma Landmarks Preservation Commission is currently accepting nominations for the 2024 Historic Preservation Awards. These awards are designed to recognize outstanding projects and initiatives that contribute to the preservation of Tacoma’s rich history.

According to Historic Preservation Coordinator Susan Johnson, the awards are a way to highlight the individuals and groups who are dedicated to maintaining Tacoma’s historical heritage. Whether it be through the restoration of a historic building or the promotion of lesser-known historical narratives, these awards celebrate the efforts that keep Tacoma’s history alive.

The award categories for Outstanding Achievement include Sustainability, Housing, Broadening Perspectives, Commercial Renovation, Community Engagement, Heritage/Legacy Business, Innovation in Preservation and Outreach, Landmark Nomination, Leadership in Preservation, Partnerships in Preservation, and Residential Renovation.

Nominations for these awards can be submitted via Google Forms until April 3. The awards ceremony and reception are scheduled to take place in person on May 23, with more details about the event’s time and location to be announced soon.
